As an experienced all-round IT professional specialising in software development, strategy and sovereignty, I am no longer employed on a permanent basis having reached retirement age; however, I offer my expertise in the areas of ‘digital sovereignty’, “Big Tech alternatives”, “software development” and “document management/digitisation” as a freelance IT consultant.
I have four decades of experience as a software engineer and software architect. I wrote my first computer programme in 1981 on a Siemens mainframe. Since then, I have professionally navigated all the twists and turns of IT development – from Fortran through C/C++ to .NET, TypeScript and AI; from client/server through virtualisation to the cloud; and from the waterfall model to Scrum and Kanban – on the Windows/PC and UNIX/Linux platforms.
In-depth knowledge of practical software development is a given for me. Furthermore, having spent 20 years as Lead Architect for a successful ERP software solution for the process industry, I am particularly well-versed in long-term strategic thinking and taking an integrated, holistic view of all technical, business and human aspects of IT issues.
